An (almost) fair weekend

I'm not quite sure how it happened but somehow I managed to convince the husband that staying at home and watching The Vow on Friday night was a better idea than socializing outside of the house.

Wherever those powers of persuasion came from is beyond me.

I did make it up to husband by going out for a glass of wine (because I was too embarrassed to order the "pink panties" cocktail) on Saturday night.

We're pretty good at compromising I guess, although strangely it feels like a win-win weekend for me.

P.S.  I don't like mushrooms but the popcorn tossed in truffle oil that the restaurant had out for munching on is about the most addicting thing ever!  One more reason I'm pushing for a popcorn maker for my birthday this year.

You spent WHAAAAAAT?

Remember that fancy date that we went on last week?  Well, these are the only two pictures that we have to remember it by.  Two measely iphone pictures to remember probably the most expensive meal that we will ever eat in our lives.  How expensive, you ask?  Well lets just say it contained a 3 and then two other numbers after that and THEN the decimal point.  Yup.  Boy was it delish!  And, it was all thanks to a very generous gift from some friends.  Aren't people just the best!?

Per usual I filled myself up before we even got to the main course.  Really though, how do they expect you to only pick one kind of bread when they offer you 6 choices.  Is there a restaurant out there that just offers bread as a meal?  There should be - I would be a faithful patron.  I managed to only spill on myself once although I think the silverware had it out for both of us.  It was weighted in just the right proportion to do a flip whenever you put it down.  Oh and the dessert - soooooo yummy.   Chocolaty, gooey, molten, rich mess is what that was.  I did fail in one front though.  I think this was my one and only opportunity in life to try kobe beef and see what all of the fuss is about.  But, gift card and all it just seemed a little selfish to get the most expensive thing on the menu - so I got the second most expensive instead.  Plain 'ol cow.

We had planned on taking a little stroll around the grounds of the resort after dinner but I'll just be honest - my dress was cutting off circulation to my stomach and so before I knew it I was feeling ill, very ill.  Lesson learned.  Wear sweat pants should a meal of this magnitude ever present itself again.

For dinner tonight - mac and cheese.  Just keepin it real.

Can't Wait

Wohoooo!  Tonight is date night and I can't wait!

I get to dress up in heels and put on makeup and you . . . you are going to look so handsome in your snazzy clothes.

We get to sip on fancy cocktails and eat to our hearts content and pretend as if we are rich and do this all of the time.  We get to stare at each other across candlelight  and laugh as we try to pick up the right silverware and not spill on our fancy clothes.

There may be dancing.

There most definitely will be dessert!

I can't wait!

Now if only I didn't have these 8 hours of work and grumpy customers in-between me and you time.

Change in Plans

Today our plans for a romantic date night were thwarted by a severe case of womanhood for yours truly.  But, the night was not all loss because:

- I was able to finish my book and verify that I do in fact make a good detective having solved the mystery well before the heroine.  Girl, you should have let me handle that one . . . it would have saved lives!
- A nap was not only encouraged by husband but also astonishingly easy to take even with my usual "use every minute of the day productively" ways
- Dinner amounted to M&Ms - sorry Mom
- Husband and I got to have a necessary though hard to bring up conversation about the future and I didn't even cry!
- There were plenty of kisses
- And mostly the night was not a loss because just about the time that we would have been enjoying a delicious dessert in a dark, romantic, candlelit room we were instead enjoying the most incredible watercolor display in the sky!

I stand by my claim - Thurday nights are the best!

Pooh Sticks

The mister and I have a legitimate date all lined up for Thursday night, one that does not involve hiding under an umbrella or the possibility of wood ticks, but since Tuesday is our routine date night we decided to get out of the house anyway.

It started with a little comfy chair time at our local bookstore followed by a walk along the river.  And, what is a date night without a little friendly competition so at the first sight of a bridge I challenged my man to a game of Pooh Sticks.  The only problem was that the river is running so quickly right now it was difficult to determine who won.  Now, we all know that friendly competitions are no good without a champion (don't believe me ask a 6 year old) so I went ahead and took one for the team and announced that my stick had won.  Pooh agreed.

The night progressed with the largest dandelion (or something) find of the century, a "not as bad as it could have been" encounter with dog poop (in flip flops no less), and a moment of shelter from the rain under a pine tree.  Tonight was again proof at how little I actually know about this place where we live, so I am determined to keep exploring and seeing the sights from new angles.

In other news - husband tried to show off for me tonight in the kitchen by flipping water in a pan in the same way that a professional chef might flip a pancake.  I'll go ahead and let you decide how that one turned out.

Date Night

Last night's date night involved cowboy boots, cozy blankets, a polka dot umbrella, a {scary} thunderstorm, a downpour of rain, a guy named Darius Rucker, and a sneaky little sun that decided to make an appearance just in time for the last song.

Although a deluge of rain in an outdoor concert setting isn't exactly ideal, I won't turn down an opportunity to cuddle up to my man. :)  Can't wait for next Tuesday!
